How can

we help?

Choose from our range of services to find an option that best fits your project. Don’t see what you need? Just get in touch.

Each service includes your Write Up – a detailed summary report showing how your content rates against our unique DEI checklist, plus suggested improvements.

We don’t just do textbooks.
We’ve reviewed audio, webinar scripts, films, YA novels, forthcoming bestsellers, fiction, non-fiction and more.

Sensitivity Reads / Culturally Sensitive editing

We’ll review your content and suggest changes to existing titles for a new edition or reprint. This is far more than a box-ticking exercise and always involves at least two of our diverse team of reviewers and an editorial lead.

Our reviewers read from all perspectives, points of view and experiences and come from a huge field of professional expertise. We can also head-hunt precisely the right person for your project.

Product Development

We work with your authors, editors, designers and other in-house teams during commissioning and development so products come to you thoroughly reviewed, fact-checked and ready to go into production.

Content Exploration

We’ll provide suggestions for new content, whether that’s sourcing it or creating it ourselves. We can supply new text, extracts, photos and illustrations.

Training and workshops

Empower your teams with in-house DE&I training and workshops - a new service from Write Up.

Our Do the Work directory lists a whole host of educators, activists and experts waiting to impart their knowledge - from Inclusion 101 (What is it and why is it so important? Why might I need a sensitivity reader?) to in-depth Q&A sessions on Empire, or anthropomorphisation in children's books, or how to appraise content yourself from a more inclusive perspective.

We have curriculum development experts, EAL teachers, development and commissioning editors, and a whole host of, frankly, just interesting people. That's just a taste of what's on offer, so please click through to the directory on Issu and have a look.

If you think you need something else entirely, let us know. It's more than likely we'll be able to help.

We’ll take care of everything you’d expect from your standard editorial services folx. Ask us about commissioning and project managing print, audio, video, and digital products, typesetting, rights clearance, or our growing bank of illustrators and designers.

What makes us different is that we outsource this work to people who are under-represented in the industry whenever we can. Our team draws on Black, Hispanic, Latinx, LGBTQ+, Native and Indigenous, AAPI, and many other frames of reference.

We also understand the constraints you’re working under, whether that’s a particular schedule, a list of set texts, exam board requirements or a specific curriculum. We are here to find ways to balance these needs with accurate, authentic representation.

What about fees?

Our reviewers’ rates are based on those recommended by the Editorial Freelancers Association and other professional bodies. Culturally-sensitive editing is very different from a copy-edit or proofread and involves both an in-depth examination of content and a personal impact on the reader so it’s important to us that our reviewers are fairly paid for their labour.

Each project also has a dedicated editorial lead to project-manage scope, schedule, budget and more, all of which is factored into our pricing.
